Top Health, Beauty & Self-Care Tips for 2021

We know we’re not alone when we say 2020 has been a weird year, full of life adjustments, stress, and unpredictable moments.

And even though the start of the new year likely won’t mean the end of the pandemic, there are some things to look forward to.

In this blog post, we’ll review some of the 2021 beauty trends that will help you look and feel your best, plus how Celebrity Med Spa can help.

Get in the habit of practicing self-care

One big theme from 2020 we expect to see carry on through 2021 is taking the time to practice self-care. This is where the “feeling your best” in our mission here at Celebrity Med Spa comes in.

Self-care is more than just a buzzword — did you know it helps us to manage stress and anxiety, and leave people feeling healthier and happier?

Taking the time to develop a self-care routine isn’t selfish, and it isn’t what you see influencers post on Instagram. Instead, it’s about learning the things that make you feel happy, less stressed, and focused.

Let’s review a few self-care practices you can try integrating into your daily life to help you feel your best.

Integrate something you enjoy into your day, every day

Whether that’s taking some time to do your favorite yoga routine, making a meal you know you love, or getting that facial or massage you’ve been dreaming about, carving out this time gives you something to look forward to every day.

Take time away from your phone

This year, many people have been more attached to their phones than ever. There’s been a lot of talk about “doom scrolling” — or, as Merriam Webster defines it, our “tendency to continue to scroll through bad news that is saddening, disheartening, or depressing.”

Consuming too much social media has been connected to feelings of depression, loneliness, and anxiety. Thankfully, it’s easy to take a step back from social media and all of its intense headlines with a few easy tips:

  • Set a timer before you get on social media, and remember why you chose to get on in the first place. Why are you there? Once you’ve achieved your goal, sign off.
  • Try “no social media weekends”, or if that seems too overwhelming, “no social media [insert day of your choice]”. Turn off your phone notifications and even delete the app if you have to (you can redownload it later). Many people report being surprised at how much less stress they feel by taking even just a day or two off of social media.
  • Keep your phone out of the bedroom/away from the bedside table to avoid the urge to check it as you are trying to fall asleep.

Pamper yourself every once in a while

Pampering yourself looks different for everyone. Maybe it’s ordering your favorite pizza and staying in for a movie night. Maybe it’s getting your nails done. Or perhaps you’d love to take yourself on a weekend trip to the mountains for some alone time away from the family.

Practice regular acts of kindness

Practicing acts of kindness isn’t only beneficial to the recipient — it triggers the reward center in our brains too, and leaves us feeling happier and more optimistic. It also increases our feelings of compassion and interconnectedness — both great things during the stress and anxiety amidst a pandemic.

Here are a few ideas for simple acts of kindness:

  • Give someone a heartfelt compliment
  • Send your friend a picture of a cute animal when they’re having a bad day
  • Leave room in your lane for a car that wants to merge
  • Send a thank-you note to someone you appreciate
  • Buy coffee for the person behind you in the drive-thru

Minimalism reigns supreme

Thanks to the dawn of the face mask in public and the general infrequency of leaving the house otherwise, skincare, makeup, and hair trends in 2020 definitely shifted to a very minimalist approach, supporting low effort routines that focus on simplicity.

We can expect similar things in 2021 — let’s take a look.

Natural beauty

For many, this was the year they quit wearing makeup — or opted for makeup once every few months instead of every day. The no-makeup trend even carried through onto runways at this year’s fashion week.

Fashion publications are predicting a slight step away from this, but still styles that focus on:

  • Clean, natural colors
  • A “dewy” makeup look
  • Natural colored lip balms and nude lipsticks
  • Basic and sleek bob haircuts
  • Textured layers
  • Natural hair colors

Simple routines and ingredients

Gone are the days when people didn’t blink twice at ingredient lists with chemicals and 20+ items on them. Now, beauty brands are working to demystify their ingredients lists, and pare down the number of products needed for your beauty routine.

Commitment to sustainability

This year, climate change came to the forefront of our news and media, and people began calling for more sustainable practices to become part of our everyday lives. For the beauty industry, this likely means turning towards more sustainable packaging practices, such as simple refillable, reusable, and recyclable packaging without excess stickers, wrappers, etc.
